Student-centered College Counseling at Lawrence Academy

The College Counseling office’s approach to college counseling adheres well to the academy’s student-centered philosophy. The experienced team of college counselors works to help each student identify colleges that fit his or her individual academic, extracurricular and personal needs.

Collaborating closely with parents during the college process, counselors send home a monthly College Counseling Office Update, which keeps parents informed of important information about the college process. The office also holds college panels, finance workshops, and informal meetings to educate parents and students on the college process.

Taking Ownership of Learning at Lawrence Academy

At Lawrence Academy, the academic program challenges students to take ownership of their learning and develop the confidence to persevere in the face of challenging problems. Prep school students develop skills and gain knowledge with the understanding that their intelligence is not fixed. The academy expects students to become persistent problem-solvers by gaining an understanding of content and thinking creatively about what they examine. Educators ask students to discover what inspires them and to exploit those interests on behalf of others.

Teaching Life Lessons through Athletics at Lawrence Academy

At Lawrence Academy, athletics offer a range of activities for students of all abilities.

From our varsity teams to junior varsity and thirds, students can compete intensely in their favorite sport and are encouraged to branch out and try a sport that might be entirely new to them; and, just as our teachers do in the classroom, our coaches train, motivate, and guide their players to an understanding of the importance of investing your time and energy in the little things.

The academy believes that athletics help students understand the rewards that come with hard work and play, as well as the importance of working with teammates to find both group and individual success.
